Meet the Gallen Family

When a family experiences a loss of a child, the last thing most want to do is schedule a photo session. Taking pictures is not priority.  That’s where professional photographers step in. Memories deserve to be recorded, even in times of tragedy, because at the time you are grieving, but later over time you may forget what your baby looked like and tell the story to remember that they existed in your life.  You carried them for months and were lucky enough to meet them if only for a few minutes or hours. I am a volunteer photographer for a non profit organization Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. NLMDTS is an organization that encourages remembrance through professional portraiture to parents suffering the loss of a newborn. This service, of course, is gifted to these families in hopes to promote healing and offer remembrance of their precious newborn. Unfortunately, at one time the Gallen family was a recipient of such session for their middle child. Today, they are remembering their boy through continuing to support NILMDTS and buying a session from me through a NILMDTS auction.

For babies who are born stillborn, are born with a genetic condition that won’t allow them to survive past birth or a terminal condition, NLMDTS provides their only photo session. The organization is committed to providing parents experiencing loss with beautiful memories of their baby. Unfortunately, there are not enough volunteers to cover all the sessions needed.  It has been a fulfilling experience to be part of this organization and to use my photography as a way to give back and help others.

Sometimes when a family experiences a loss of a child, the motivation to schedule and prep for a session is just not there. However, it is so important to continue documenting your family’s story.   With this session, the Gallen’s were able to honor their boy while capturing memories of their lives today. Their two sweet children deserve to have these photos with their parents. Here are some of my favorites from their session at Daniel’s Park!
