As a photographer in Colorado, I’m lucky enough to have a spectacular view practically a stone’s throw from my studio and home. Stunning locations like Rocky Mountain National Park, Chautauqua, Vail, and Breckenridge to name a few are just a car drive away! But the closest and one of my favorites is Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak. I go so often, I have a Top 5 photo locations at Garden of the Gods! Both are visible in 1 amazing shot, making for perfect palette of reds, blues, purples and greens of spectacular color and that is before an epic sunset.
Top 5 Photo Location Ideas at Garden of the Gods
1. High Point
This has got to be one of my favorite locations because it offers so many gorgeous views that are truly stunning. On Top 5 locations of Garden of the Gods, it is absolutely #1. It’s an easy walk and the contrast of the red and white rocks with the blue mountains makes for amazing photos. The only downside is it isn’t super private and a lot of teenagers come here to hang out 🙂
2. Camel’s Back
This is the first parking lot when you enter the park so the typical trail you take is pretty busy. But if you venture to the other side of the road to get Camel’s Back in the photo, you won’t be disappointed. Just be careful in the tall grass for any snakes.
3. Siamese Twins
If you are looking for a more private location with still that stunning view, look at Siamese Twins. It takes a bit of a hike from a small parking lot but it’s worth it. There are 2 large red rock formations and a small lookout for 2 which is perfect, especially for engagement photos.
4. Garden Point
Garden Point is a at the very end of the loop of driving Garden of the Gods right before you get to the entrance. It also is a little walk to the top but there is a great view of most of the park and some of Colorado Springs. Be careful though as sitting here is a bit tricky as cactus is pretty prevalent.
5. The Entrance to Garden of the Gods
Last one of the prettiest and most accessible places of Garden of the Gods for a view is of course the iconic view from the interest. Pikes Peak is surrounded by the red rocks of the park and creates a beautiful collage of color. Of course it’s the most popular area for pictures but there are plenty of vantage points for this same view including the visitor’s center, the main entrance sign of the park and even Garden of the Gods Club.
Honorable mention
– 3 Graces View Point
So I struggled to include 3 Graces View Point as it is a pull off area which is pretty small and has a wall that prevents too much photo wise and in addition the lighting there is pretty tricky as half of the park or your subject can be in shade and half in sun. However, it is still a very beautiful view and worth a picture or two if you have some time.
