This was such a special maternity session. First of all, I’m so glad Jordan brought dad-to-be along for some couples maternity portraits. We got tons of lovey, cuddly photos that really show the love that mom and dad have for their baby and for each other. One of the coolest parts of this session wasn’t even captured in the photos. When we got to Dawson Butte to start our session, we passed by a heard of bison and elk. I was really hoping they would come and photobomb a few of the portraits but I think they were more interested in the grass than in us. 😀
The real reason this session was so special is because this is a rainbow baby for this lovely couple. A rainbow baby is the metaphorical “rainbow” after the “storm” of pregnancy loss. We had lots of rainbow balloons to celebrate this special pregnancy. This couple has tried to have a baby for so long. Unfortunately, Jordan had three miscarriages before this beautiful pregnancy. Because this is her fourth pregnancy, they are naming their baby Quade, which means fourth. I absolutely LOVE the name!
Couples Maternity Portraits
I always tell my maternity clients to plan their sessions for when they are between 30 and 35 weeks along. This way they will be able to show off their gorgeous bump in the portraits. We can do maternity sessions a few different ways. We can do a session like this, a little more casual but still cute with dad and any siblings as well. Or we an do a session with just mom, in a grand flowy dress, like this stunning session at the Sand Dunes. Another option is doing a session in my studio. This is a great option if you want a mix of indoor and outdoor, since my studio has a great outdoor space with mountain views. Here’s the blog post from my last in-studio maternity session. Caution, it might get a little steamy!
