Historic Craftwood Peak By Wedgewood
As a wedding photographer in Colorado, I don’t photograph a lot of weddings at historic properties. It’s possible in Colorado, there just aren’t as many as the east coast, or perhaps it is just that the outdoor views are far more historic and picturesque. However, there are an increase of historic wedding venues being saved, renovated and available. Most recently, the historic Craftwood Peak by Wedgewood, formerly The Craftwood Inn.
This property build for and by craftsmen in 1912 has gone through quite a few metamorphoses, even in the past decade since I have lived in Colorado. When I first visited well over a decade ago, the Craftwood Inn was a unique higher end restaurant serving different game meat such as venison, bison and boar. Around 2015, a couple took it on as a wedding venue (which they also catered) and made some welcomed improvements. Recently, however, they retired and turned over the business to the legacy wedding venues of Wedgewood. Alyssa and Kyle were probably one of the last couple’s to have been taken care of by David and Brian before they retired and enjoyed their famous green bread and food faire.

However, this couple’s day was in many places to document all that was important to them. Besides having their wedding reception at the historic Craftwood Peak by Wedgewood, they also got ready in their on site suites, traveled to Holy Apostles for their Catholic ceremony and also made a stop at Garden of the Gods for the fantastic nearby view. We actually have an all day package of 11 hours of coverage for special weddings such as these. A good deal of time is spent traveling from each space. It is important to consider who needs to be where at what time and with what items. Many times I see a florist show at a ceremony with all the items but the bride’s bouquet was needed at a location before the ceremony for formal portraits. It’s just not usually something our clients think about unless you have professionals like ourselves or planners helping you. Nonetheless, the day went perfect with our guidance and skill.
From start to finish, this was one of my favorite weddings to photograph with a huge variety of exceptional moments and stunning locations.
