Your Chosen Family Elopement
Big, traditional family weddings are still popular with most of my weddings that I photograph. However, lately I’ve seen a rise in the micro weddings, elopements and friendly weddings, specifically chosen family elopements. Friendsgiving has come full circle with our generational traditions and now having chosen family at an elopement are the new VIPs at smaller micro weddings. For Phillip and Jeremy’s day, the most important guests for their day was their furbaby and their best friends. To celebrate the end of pride month, I want to share with you their perfect chosen family elopement day.
On a fairly warm April day in Colorado Springs, Jeremy and Phillip wanted an intimate, emotional day celebrating their love. As a same sex gay couple, its an unfortunate truth that sometimes family doesn’t always show up. Many couples go without family to support, acknowledge or fully accept your love story. Nevertheless, your chosen family, will carry you up and then shout with you from the mountain tops. Garden of the Gods Park is picturesque and perfectly framed to amplified their story and love.
During their vows, I was especially touched by Phillip’s story. He recounted about starting to lose hope for love and thinking of the song lyrics, “God only knows where I’d be without you.” This was the song that his dear friend played now, years later at Garden of the Gods Park, knowing he’s here now with the one person that was meant for him. Alongside their adorable dog they sang, they drank and they basked in the warmth and love that surrounded them.

Despite the naysayers, now more than ever, I strive to document every momentous event and ways we show love and affection. My commitment is not limited by gender or identity. I value all people and forms of love. Additionally, we welcome with open arms trans persons, non-binary, lesbian or gay or even polyamorous. We are allies to the community and hope that you know we are a safe space for you to love who you love, they way you love.
