Little Gabriel is near and dear to my heart. His mom, Amanda booked a Milestone Session Package with me, when she was pregnant. She wanted to document the first year of her little boy’s life. He was born really premature though, so I photographed him in the NICU, where he spent his first four months. We did his newborn session once he was released and old enough to come into my studio. He was still on oxygen at the time, so I was very careful to take the tubes out for some quick photos and photoshop out his stickies. Take a look at Gabriel’s NICU session and newborn portraits.
When babies are born premature, like Gabriel was at 27 weeks, they have an “adjusted age.” Basically, when they’re born, they are still developing as if they were in the womb, which is why they have to stay in the NICU. Because of this, they hit their milestones, like sitting up and walking a bit later. They’ll catch up within the first year or so, but for milestone photos, we try to use the adjusted age, rather than going by their actual birth date. In these six month photos, Gabriel was actually eight months, but he was barely 12 pounds and couldn’t sit up on his own yet so we propped him up for the photos.
Six Month Milestone Session
He did such a great job at his session! This kid has a great personality. He was so smiley, could not stop laughing, and was fascinated by everything around him. I love the look of wonder we captured in some of his portraits. He also has the absolute greatest hair, I have ever seen. On anyone! And it’s all natural! His long, dark hair only grows on the top of his head, so he has a big natural mohawk! It sticks straight up too!
Amanda had a gorgeous dress from Rent the Runway so we made sure to take some photos of her and Gabriel together at the end of the session. Isn’t she such a gorgeous woman!
