Colorado Mountain Wedding in Cuchara

September 11, 2017

Kristin and James live on the East Coast but they both have childhood ties to Colorado. Kristin grew up in Central Colorado and James has been coming to his family’s Southern Colorado cabin since he was a baby. They met each other in college, at Cornell College in Iowa and dated for 10 years before James proposed. James proposed to Kristin at the Ritz Carlton, overlooking Central Park. It was a beautiful March day at sunset, and Kristin said yes! When they were deciding on where to get married, they chose Cuchara for their Colorado Mountain wedding. They got married on Cordova Pass, and had a stunning view of the Rocky Mountains, even through the clouds and rain. Their reception was at the rustic Timbers Restaurant and Gallery.

Colorado Mountain Wedding in Cuchara | Kristin + James

Kristin and James had an elegant, modern wedding with mountain rustic touches. But, like most weddings things didn’t quite go according to plan. I showed up to the ceremony site to lightning, hail, and torrential downpour. Super romantic, right! I could see that there were clear skies off in the distance and it took them two hours to reach us. The wedding planner, Erica of Erica Sarell Weddings, and I figured we’d have about two hours before the storm came back. We moved the ceremony up and quickly got all the portraits we needed, just in time, before the rain started again. What a wedding story!

As Kristin got ready, she told me that she ALWAYS wears socks and so her wedding day would be no different.  There wouldn’t be any Jimmy Choo’s for this bride lol.  Before the ceremony, Kristin had a first look with her father. He was so emotional and I got some of my favorite photos of the wedding from it!  His wedding gift to his daughter and soon to be son-in-law was a Rolls Royce rental for their wedding day. Of course, we made sure to get plenty of portraits with the beautiful, vintage car. All the details as this wedding were just beautiful. Kristin even made all the signs herself! James and Kristin make such a beautiful couple. Congratulations to the two of you!

I've been a Colorado wedding and portrait photographer since 2006 in the days of photography yore. Every client is family to me and I love to grow and document each and everyone's most emotional moments and bundles of joy whether they be human or furbaby. It's very much the happiest days of a person's life and I feel purpose while documenting those moments.
