I love Colorado engagement sessions! They are so much fun! It’s a great way for me to get to know my wedding clients before their big day. But so often I hear things like “We don’t really need engagement photos” or “We don’t really like to be in front of the camera more than we have to”. I totally get that a lot of people feel uncomfortable in front of the camera. Add to that the stress of planning a wedding and trying to coordinate everyone’s busy schedules and it can feel like a burden. An engagement session isn’t just a little wedding bonus, it is an event in itself and it is so worth it! It’s a time to relax, be yourselves, hang out in a gorgeous place, and have some more intimate, beautiful photos than your selfies. Here are my top three reasons to get engagement photos.
Top 3 Reasons To Get Engagement Photos
REASON 1: Brides can get their hair and makeup done for their engagement session, which is always a fun way to treat yourself! A lot of my brides even use their engagement session as a trial run of their hair and makeup before the wedding. Plus, since you’re already dressed up and looking amazing, it’s a great excuse to go on a fancy date night after your session! Your engagement session will already feel like a date anyway because you’ll be cuddling and kissing and spending quality time together in front of the camera. Why not go out for dinner or some drinks after and show off your awesome makeup to boot!
REASON 2: Engagement photos are different than newlywed portraits. They are timeless shots of the two of you just being yourselves. Newlywed portraits are an amazing way to remember your wedding day and show off your incredible dress and suit. But engagement sessions capture this time in your life, rather than a specific day. That makes them a bit more versatile for your walls or to share online. These are photos you can look at decades from now and remember “when we were young”.
REASON 3: Your engagement photos are great images to have for decor at your wedding, reception slideshows, and save the dates. Without professional portraits taken before the wedding day, you’ll be left with nothing but cell phone selfies and poorly lit photos your mom took. There are so many points during the wedding planning process where you’ll need photos of you two together. Having an engagement session will provide you with tons of incredible, professional images to chose from.
