One of the most important things to figure out when planning an engagement session is to find the perfect location. Most of my clients are looking for a stunning natural location with mountain views, water, and beautiful color changing trees. There are so many incredibly gorgeous places in Colorado. It’s one of the things that makes this state so special and makes me proud to call it home. However, this can make it so hard to find the perfect location simply because there are so many amazing ones! The first thing I do to narrow down our options is to determine what season we’ll be doing our session. Since I do a lot of engagement photos in the fall, I have some incredible spots for Colorado fall engagement sessions. Below are my top 5!
Top 5 Colorado Fall Engagement Locations
1. Kenosha Pass
Kenosha Pass is one of the most popular spots for Coloradoans to go leaf peeping. There are incredible fall colors during peak season and a trail that goes right through them. In the fall, the mountains just light up with yellow and orange.
2. Guanella Pass
Guanella Pass is one of the best spots for gorgeous, yellow aspen leaves. Just an hour and a half from Denver, it has amazing mountain views right off the road, nearby aspens and a great trail that leads to an alpine lake. Guanella Pass is a great place to get, mountains, water, and fall leaves all in one session. The session below, with Deanna and Ross, was at Guanella Pass this past fall, during the peak colors. Beware though that both Kenosha and Guanella in the fall get a ton of vehicle traffic which means add an hour or two to being stuck with everyone else.
3. Twin Lakes and Aspen
In the fall, it’s all about the aspens! So why not go to the place named after the gorgeous yellow leaves? Aspen is a great town for engagement photos and there are so many amazing nature spots nearby. Just an hour away is Twin Lakes, where we did Richard and Ashley‘s Colorado fall engagement session. Great views of mountains and water, tons of aspen trees, and amazing sunsets. What’s better than that?
4. Estes Park
Estes Park is famous for it’s entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park and the annual Elk Fest. It’s only an hour away from Boulder and an hour and a half from Denver. Rocky Mountain National Park, where Nicole and Jacob had their Colorado fall engagement session, has photogenic spots all over the place. There are also plenty of places outside the park for photos, like Lake Estes and the mountains.
5. Breckenridge
Breckenridge is a great location idea for people who want nature and city backgrounds. There are so many parks and mountains, like Lake Dillon and Sapphire Point nearby. Then, we can head into town to get photos on the adorable streets of Breckenridge. Dev and Yesha had an amazing sunrise engagement session there and even found a restaurant with their last name on it!
