Last month, I was part of an amazing photography workshop at the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Did you know that we have sand dunes right here in Colorado!? Well, we do and they are amazing! During the workshop, we photographed two couples at the Colorado sand dunes. Each couple did an engagement session and a wedding session, in full wedding attire. Keep an eye out for that blog post coming in a few weeks! For now, I’m sharing the engagement sessions with our amazing models. The first couple we worked with is Kaitlyn and Doug, then it was Eric and Brittany’s turn.
Colorado Sand Dunes Engagements
I cannot talk enough about how magical this location is. We really are so lucky to have such diverse locations in this state. The Sand Dunes are probably the most surprising and they are really remarkable. However, they are not an easy place to photograph. They’re pretty far away, about three hours drive from Colorado Springs. And once you park, you have quite the workout ahead of you. You have to cross a stream to get to the dunes and if the wind picks up, it’s like a mini sand storm. It is so worth it for these incredible photos though! There are amazing mountain views past the rolling hills of sand and there’s even a waterfall nearby! As I said, it is full of magic.
I am so glad I got to photograph not one, but two amazing couples there! I love that workshops like this offer opportunities you don’t always get. There was one thing I wanted to do while I was there that we didn’t get to though. I really wanted some epic star shots at night but it was too cloudy that day. The Colorado sand dunes are far enough out that the night sky is quite impressive, but that only works when you can see it! I would love to head back out with another couple to get those stary sky shots on a clear night. Email me know if you’re up for an epic adventure!
