Hillside Gardens Wedding – April and Molly

Molly and April had a Hillside Gardens wedding in Colorado Springs. This venue is a total dream. It’s like a secret garden wonderland. Plus you have incredible views of the mountains, right from the ceremony site! Picnic Basket did their catering and they did a beautiful job. Their DJ was Boogie Down Productions and they made the reception so much fun. They even brought a limbo stick and both brides and the whole wedding party took part! I’m pretty convinced that every wedding needs to have limbo. It was so much fun and it was a great way to get people on the dance floor and having a blast!

I loved the little rainbow flairs these two included in their special day. They had what they called “gay mistletoe” which were little rainbow ribbon wands. They each had one and would hold it above their heads to get a kiss from each other. So stinking cute, right? I also wanted to do something special for them, so when I took them out for newlywed photos, I set up a rainbow arch for them, lit with my flashes and colorful gels. Unfortunately, queer people still have a high rate of family rejection and April’s family wasn’t at the wedding. But it was so amazing to see how Molly’s family welcomed April in with open arms. Family is about love, not blood right? I think Molly and April have a pretty great family together!

April and Molly had an incredible wedding day and I loved every minute of it. These were a few of the highlights. They had a handfasting ceremony, with the help of April’s maid of honor. At the reception, they did a beautiful choreographed first dance. At the end of the day, they handed out seed packets to all the guests and had a lavender throwing send-off. It was perfect for a daytime reception and a great alternative to the tradition of throwing rice, which isn’t good for pigeons little bellies. To end their wedding day right, these two lovebirds, drove off in April’s signature beat-up red pickup truck with a “Just Married” sign on the back!
