Jennifer and Derek decided to elope in Colorado, at one of the state’s most beautiful places. They chose to get married at Garden of the Gods because they love the natural beauty and scenery of the park. They eloped with their close family on November 1st, Dia de los Muertos. I love that they worked this holiday into their wedding hashtag, #DiaDeLosHowells. So cute, right!? Derek and Jennifer met each other through a mutual friend while they were in college at Texas State University and started dating in November 2010. They got engaged in a library in San Antonio in 2016. They even sent me a photo from their engagement of Jennifer showing off her ring and Derek in the background giving a thumbs up. Lol!
Texan’s Elope in Colorado – Jennifer + Derek
These two hand-wrote their own vows in journals and read them to each other at the ceremony. They also made most of the stuff they brought like the bouquets, which were absolutely gorgeous. Oh, and did I mention Jennifer’s amazing tiara! I loved that extra bit of glam to an already fairytale wedding. They invited their closest family and friends to join them for their ceremony.
An important part of their elopement was the lasso ceremony, a Mexican wedding tradition that symbolizes unity. They used two scarves tied together as the lasso. I think the scarves kept them warm too. It was such a beautiful day, however, it was FREEZING. Apparently, Jennifer had so many layers under her dress she was hot but even myself and my assistant from Colorado were numb. Jennifer was much smarter than us. Lol! There was also plenty of snow, so all the women wore snow boots. I made sure to get a photo of them!
